Surgical orthodontics
Not all orthodontic issues can be treated with braces alone. For patients whose jaws have stopped growing, sometimes we need to use surgical orthodontics to achieve an aligned smile.

What is surgical orthodontics?
Surgical orthodontics is jaw surgery used to correct irregularities in the jaw and facial bones. It's typically performed when there are issues that can't be fixed with braces alone, such as severe misalignment of the upper and lower jaws, or problems with the bite.
Who needs surgical orthodontics?
Surgical orthodontics is only used for adult patients whose jaws have stopped growing. It will only be used if the jaws have bite issues that cannot be fixed with braces or clear aligners. If you book a consultation with our team, we can let you know if you are a candidate.
How does jaw surgery work?
We work closely with local oral surgeons to ensure the best for your smile. You will start with braces that will move your teeth closer to alignment. It may seem like they are actually moving into the wrong places, but once surgery is performed, they will be aligned.
Your jaw surgeon will give you anesthesia and your procedure will take 2-3 hours on average. After a short recovery period, we will use your braces to finetune your smile to ensure it is beautifully aligned.
